This first release of 962 models will be a selection of cars run at 1988 through 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours. All were running the later "M1.7" watercooled update and, with exception of the Alpha car, raced in the low-downforce "longtail" configuration specific to Le Mans.
The distinctive asymmetrical 1988 Shell Dunlop livery is one of a long lineage of definitive Porsche designs. 17's chassis #010 was the odds-on favorite to win the 24hrs, but despite a monster of an effort by Hans Stuck, Derek Bell, and Klaus Ludwig from pole, it finished a narrow second just behind the victorious Jaguar.
Joest - Le Mans 1989, 1990
Former Porsche works driver Reinhold Joest fielded large multi-car teams throughout the 962's history at Le Mans. For 1989, Chassis #145 ran the pink and gray of Japanese clothier Italya. The car returned to Le Mans in 1990 with the clean sporting blues of Japanese athletics company Mizuno.
Alpha, Omron - Le Mans 1990
Team Alpha had a good run in 1990 with chassis #154, coming in a close 3rd against the Jaguar contingent and notable as the only "sprint" tail 962 to run at Le Mans to date.
Schuppan's Japan-based semi-Works team turned out the Omron with a new bespoke chassis built out to the newest works configuration with American Hurley Haywood in the driving lineup.
